Darkley Welcomes Lisanally Special School
On Thursday 6th June, Darkley welcomed 28 pupils and their teachers and assistants from Lisanally Special School to share in the Police and Fire World Games Fun Day held in Darkley PS. In preparations for the day, P7 pupils wrote individual letters to all the pupils telling them about the event and a little about themselves. They prepared poems and pictures to share with the pupils to give them a very good sense of what to expect on the day. The P7 pupils also designed a huge banner for the front of the school welcoming Lisanally on their arrival. The Fun Day was an absolute blast. Adventure Activities from Activ8 arrived at 8am and set up an amazing ropes course where pupils had to traverse across many obstacles suspended from a wire and harness. The police arrived and pupils got a wonderful opportunity to explore their fast cars and vans with built in cages ( which pupils loved when they put their teachers in). The P7 pupils also organised games and obstacle courses in their football field, where they played with their new friends from Lisanally. It was a scorching day and pupils enjoyed snacks and drinks outside on the grass. The mascot for the games, Emergency Eddie, was also there and he entertained all the pupils. He was a big hit and the day flew by. It was soon time for Lisanally to leave and it was great to meet so many wonderful children. It is hoped that the Darkley P7's will meet up with their new Lisanally friends before the end of the term. Speaking to the pupils afterwards, it was a day that will live long in their memory. Darkley PS would like to thank Lisanally for coming to the Fun Day. All the pupils had a tremendous time. Photographs of the day can be seen in the gallery section.
