P7 Pupils Welcome the Ulster Orchestra
P7 pupils welcomed Karen and Ricky from the Ulster Orchestra on the 13th of May as part of the pupil'sĀ Planet Earth Music Workshop which will culminate with a special show in Newry Leisure Centre on the 22nd of May. During the visit, Karen and Ricky worked with the pupils in a very fun packed manner, exploring pitch, rhythm and tempo.
In preparation for the workshop, the P7 pupils made their own instruments and explored moving pieces of music such as 'Sunrise' by Richard Strauss which has been in movies such as 'The Simpsons, WALL-E and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Other pieces included 'Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams', a famous piece often used to convey rolling hills and lush, green countryside images on tv. The pupils used a range of art mediums such as pastels and chalksĀ to translate the music into pieces of artwork.
The pupils then had the opportunity to use their instruments and play with Karen and Ricky. It was a fantastic afternoon for all the pupils and they are looking forward to bringing their instruments with them to the show in Newry Leisure Centre where famous conductor STEPHEN BELL will work with the Ulster Orchestra and co-ordinate the music from all the other visiting schools.
