Caterpillars 🐛 to Butterflies 🦋

19th May 2026
Miss Beagan’s Primary 3 & 4 class have loved learning all about butterflies this year through live lessons, beautiful artwork, and writing reports on the butterfly life cycle.

A few weeks ago, the class was surprised with a butterfly growing kit, and did an amazing job caring for the caterpillars. We started with 9 caterpillars and were delighted when ALL 9 successfully became beautiful butterflies!!

Last Friday, with the help of Siobhan, the class excitedly released the butterflies outdoors. Eight happily flew away, hopefully to pollinate the flowers, while the final butterfly was a little nervous and clung to Alison’s finger. It had been the final one to hatch, a day or two after the others, so we brought it back inside for a couple more days before its big release.

This has been a really fun and successful project, and the class has learned so much about nature and the world around them.
