Engineering Excellence In Primary 6 & 7!
14th Apr 2026
At our school, we know how important STEM education is, and we are proud to embrace it through exciting, hands-on learning opportunities across our lessons.
This week, Mrs Fitzpatrick’s Primary 6 & 7 class had a temporary change of teacher, and Mr Monaghan (who LOVES a hands-on challenge đđť) was delighted to bring STEM into the classroom with an exciting engineering task.
Pupils were challenged to build bridge structures strong enough to hold increasing weight, using only paper, split pins, and masking tape. First, they had to work out how to engineer the paper to make it strong enough.
The results were outstanding! Their bridges held 100 pennies (368g), then 500g, then 1 kilogram…and finally an incredible 2 kilograms all using just paper! We definitely have some future engineers in our class đđť
A fantastic example of teamwork, creativity, and STEM learning in action. Well done to the whole class!
