P1&2 Museum Visit
As part of our Toy topic Primary one and two visited Armagh County Museum.
First, we learned about old toys and new toys. Toys from long ago were often made from wood, glass, metal, or china, while many of today’s toys are made from plastic. It was fascinating to feel the different materials and compare them.
One of our favourite activities was sorting teddy bears from oldest to youngest. We looked closely at each bear’s features—its fur, eyes, stitching, and even how squishy it was—to help us decide its age. Some had fur that was worn from years of cuddles, while others looked newer and fluffier. The oldest teddy bear was an incredible 70 years old – he unfortunately had lost his growl! We loved being toy detectives and discovering how the bears had changed over the decades.
We also had great fun playing with lots of toys, including some that children used many years ago and some that looked more like the toys we play with now. It was amazing to see how toys have changed over time. One particular favorite was the Jacobs ladder toy.
To finish off the day, we used a wooden peg to create our own toy. We could choose to make either a plane or a doll. We were very proud of our creations!
