Taking the classroom outdoors
7th Mar 2026
One blink of sunshine and we were straight outside!☀️
Our Primary 5 & 6 class made the most of the dry weather this week, with a brilliant outdoor maths lesson led by Mr Monaghan.
First, the children became measurement detectives, exploring the yard and measuring everyday objects like doorways, windowsills and playground features📏
Then came the real challenge! Mr Monaghan showed them how you can measure the height of something very tall using just a stick - which the class thought was pretty amazing! 🌳
They also learned how to calculate the circumference of a circle, and there were smiles all around when their estimates turned out to be correct.
The children had great fun learning through engaging, hands-on activities. Proving that maths really CAN be an adventure when the classroom moves outdoors!
